Punter hoping ALP is a safe bet

A PUNTER has bet $10,000 on the Labor MP for Holt Anthony Byrne retaining his seat at the forthcoming Federal Election.
The wager was laid on Tuesday with Sportingbet Australia at the skinny odds of $1.20. The punter stands to make $2000 if Mr Byrne wins.
Sportingbet CEO Michael Sullivan said the bet for Labor to retain the seat of Holt was a relatively safe one.
“The Labor Party only enjoy a 1.5 per cent margin in the Narre Warren-based electorate but at this stage the seat appears safe,” Mr Sullivan said.
“And $1.20 is better than bank interest.”
After the big bet was laid, the Sportingbet odds on a Labor victory in Holt have now come down to $1.05 while a Liberal victory is quoted at $7.
Covering the suburbs of Endeavour Hills, Doveton, Eumemmerring and parts of Narre Warren, Berwick, Hallam, Hampton Park and Cranbourne, the Holt electorate stretches over almost 150 square kilometres.
Liberal candidate Emanuele Cicchiello will challenge Mr Byrne in his attempt to retain his seat.
An overall ALP win is at $1.36 while a Coalition win is priced at $3.25.
“We couldn’t find a punter to back them (the coalition) in the past couple of months but there’s been no shortage of them in the last 24 hours,” Mr Sullivan said.
An overall ALP win is at $1.36 while a coalition win is priced at $3.25.
Punters can also back the exact date we will be heading to the polls with 27 October the favoured day.
