Bailey’s hoard of gold

By Glen Atwell
AFTER starting his athletics career just three months ago, seven-year-old Bailey Morrish has already won enough gold to be nicknamed “the jeweller”.
The grade-two student from Berwick Lodge Primary School recently participated in the Casey Little Athletics Centre Championships, where he put in six gold-medal performances.
Morrish outclassed the competition in every event he competed, including high jump, triple jump, long jump, 60 metres hurdle, 100 metres sprint and 50 metres sprint.
The rising star broke all of his personal best records on the day, which was described by his mother Shelley as very exciting.
“It was a great day, Bailey did very well and I was so proud of his efforts,” Ms Morrish said.
Morrish is the son of former AFL player Paul Morrish, who played with Essendon and Richmond during his career.
Morrish said he has given up some of his other favourite sports to take up athletics.
“I used to do swimming and play tennis.
“I stopped swimming so I could do athletics every week,” Morrish said.
Using his back yard as a training ground, Morrish said he wants to keep improving and beating his personal best times.
“I like winning gold medals and blue ribbons,” he declared.
