A NARRE Warren car wash has been recognised for being an Australian leader in saving water.
Wizard Car Wash on Princes Highway is saving about 130 litres of water per car – an effort recognised with nomination in the prestigious national Green Plumbers Awards.
The Narre Warren based project has been developed over the last two years by Shiners Car Wash Systems and is now implementing the technology in car washes throughout Australia.
The system has been well received for its ability to recycle the wash water as well as using water that conventional car washes would let go down the drain.
Shiners Car Wash Systems CEO Richard Davison said his company has a significant responsibility to reduce water consumption.
“All the research and development was centred at Narre Warren. In light of the current water restrictions, we must do all that we can to conserve water,” Mr Davison said.
The winner of the Green Plumbers award, part of the Commercial-Industrial Project of the Year in the 2006 Master Plumbers and Mechanical Services Association of Australia (MPMSAA) category, will be announced on 11 November.
Mr Davison said he was extremely proud to be nominated for the award as it is recognition for the work and effort put into developing and refining the Wizard Car Wash Project.
“It always feels good to be recognised for your work.
“With severe water restrictions around the corner it is especially rewarding to be able to give back to the environment,” Mr Davison said.
Mr Davison said there were no excuses for car washes to use an excessive amount of water in their operation.
“I think most people really do want to reduce their water consumption but need to be given simple ways to do so.
“Commercial businesses, which take the lead by reducing the water in their operations, are setting the examples for the rest of the community,” he said.
