Still nothing in store

DAVID Jones is coming to Fountain Gate – the only real question is when.
The department store giant’s group general manager-retail development Antony Karp this week confirmed David Jones was committed to opening a store at Westfield Fountain Gate in Narre Warren.
But he said the timing of the opening was a question for Westfield.
Mr Karp said he believed Westfield was currently working on plans for the development and seeking planning approval.
In 2003, the upmarket department store chain renegotiated the terms of an existing Fountain Gate lease agreement with Westfield, first made in 1996.
The new agreement saw the proposed store size reduced and delayed the opening date.
The original agreement required David Jones to open during 2007-2010, but the opening period has now been delayed to 2008-2012. Mr Karp said was under the impression that the development would occur in the “shorter term”.
Westfield did not respond to inquiries from the News by time of going to print.
