CHASING a large score to keep their finals hopes alive, Cranbourne’s openers got off to a great start with Dan Hunt and Brad Angus putting on 75 for the first wicket.
Hunt’s dismissal for 39 triggered a collapse from which the Turf One team never recovered. Despite 45 from Angus and good contributions of 49 and 41 from Shane Murdoch and Steve Hall respectively, Cranbourne was bowled out by Springvale South for 192 to end this year’s finals campaign. After a strong batting and bowling performance in the first week, Cranbourne was well-placed to push for a win.
With young speed demon Jason Toan taking career-best figures of 6/60, well supported by leggie Lee Murdoch, the game was in the balance. A controversial decision to deny what appeared to be a clear stumping off Murdoch saw the game swing to Hallam’s favour, and although the team fought the game out, Hallam scraped over the line. After posting a competitive score on the first day against St Mary’s, a poor bowling and fielding performance saw Cranbourne lose badly. Too many extras were conceded in the heat in a disappointing performance.

In a dominant performance against a fellow finals contender, Cranbourne destroyed North Dandenong to retain top spot on the ladder. After compiling an imposing 9/277, Cranbourne dismissed Dandy North for just 80.

After bowling the opposition out for 143, several Cranbourne batsmen got starts to enable the winning score to be posted.

A routine win for one-day juggernaut Cranbourne as it gears up for finals action was led by skipper Al Courtney (4/13 off eight overs). Cranbourne dismissed Lyndale for a score of only 83, with Courtney well supported in the field by Kevin Lindsay.
In reply, Cranbourne cruised to victory with Wayne Stephens and the elegant Jason Discher scoring almost all the required runs in their opening partnership. Cranbourne 1/83 d Lyndale 80.

Having already secured first innings points, Cranbourne declared and then bowled out Buckley Ridges for just 62 with young gun Ben Hall destroying the opposition to return 5/9.
