Bushfires online

THE internet is a goldmine of information for those wishing to be kept up-to-date with the progress of Victoria’s raging bushfires, particularly in Gippsland. Both the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) carry information pertaining to the bush fires that will tell you anything from where the fires are, to how many are under-control or still out-of-control.
Such websites may be of little use for those stuck in the fire zones but for relatives and friends of those in Gippsland, or for those who had planned camping trips – such resources are informative.
First, visit www.cfa.vic.gov.au, and click on the Current Fires and Incidents button.
This will give you a list of all CFA jobs – including the bush fires, which will contain a link to further information and updates.
School students and teachers can use the website for background information on bush fires, and other fires, too.
Then visit the DSE website at www.dse.vic.gov.au and on the left-hand column click on Fire and Other Emergencies.
Several options are available, similar to the CFA website. The DSE protects National and State Parks, so the information will be pertaining to fires in such places.
It lists not only fires, but controlled-burns, too.
Maps with detailed information on the bushfires are available.
