McDonald’s chips in for charity

FOUNTAIN Gate and Endeavour Hills McDonald’s did their bit for charity recently.
The two local stores took part in a Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation fund raising effort that resulted in more than $35,000 going to charity.
The money was raised through the Blue Ribbon Foundation’s Drive Thru Challenge, where all McDonald’s restaurants across Victoria donated $1 from every car served between 6pm and 7pm on Friday, 14 September.
This resulted in $20,000 being raised with an additional $15,108 made through public donations on the night.
Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation CEO Neil Soullier said the challenge had been one of the group’s biggest fund raising projects to date.
“The money raised by the challenge will help us to fund public hospital projects throughout Victoria to perpetuate the memory of members of the Victoria Police killed in the line of duty,” Mr Soullier said.
McDonald’s spokesman Mike Rodgers said: “We would like to say a big thank you to the local community for helping to make the Drive Thru Challenge such a success. It is a fantastic result for a very worthy cause.”
Since 1993, the foundation has raised more than $4 million for community projects that provide specialised care to more than 65,000 patients each year.
The foundation also organised Blue Ribbon Day on Thursday 29 September to honour the 150 police officers who have been killed – 30 of them murdered – while serving the Victorian community.
