AFTER fighting it out with the bat Narre Warren’s turf-one team fell 80 runs short in its chase of North Dandenong’s 333 in round five, day two on Saturday.
After two disappointing games, a dramatic change to the batting order was produced with Dean Williams and veteran Chris Pentland sent out to open the innings.
Unfortunately Pentland was out early and this brought captain-coach Wendell Perumal, batting at three for the first time, to the crease.
Williams and Perumal set about building a nice partnership in the sweltering conditions.
One run shy of their 100-run partnership, Williams was trapped lbw for a good 38.
John Simpson came in at four as Narre went to tea in a very strong position – 2/133 after 35 overs.
Feeling confident, the players knew the game was there for the taking until an umpiring error saw Perumal given out, caught behind off his thigh pad for 64.
This brought a Narre collapse that would be impossible to overcome.
After losing 5/9 in very good batting conditions, the only resistance was offered by Mark Teeuw playing his first game for the year in turf-one who finished 63 not out. Disappointingly falling 80 runs short of the North Dandy total.
Standouts with bat were Perumal and Teeuw, while Vinay Tripathi was magnificent with the ball claiming four North Dandy wickets for 107 off a massive 33 overs the previous week.
