Boost for gate takings

A NEW gatehouse will soon be built at Akoonah Park after the State Government announced a $5500 grant earlier this week.
The Berwick Agricultural Society will receive the money, according to Narre Warren North State Labor MP Luke Donnellan.
The State Government has allocated $295,000 in grants to 44 agricultural and pastoral societies to improve show facilities around Victoria.
“The Berwick Agricultural Society does a wonderful job in assisting to deliver the annual Berwick Show and other major events at Akoonah Park which benefits the whole community,” Mr Donnellan said.
“This money will go towards the cost of building a new portable gatehouse to be used during major events at Akoonah Park.”
Individual grants will be paid to the societies once the projects are completed.
Preference was given to groups who had received little or no financial assistance in recent years and had a proven track record of delivering successful projects in the past, Mr Donnellan said.
“These grants show the Brumby Government is committed to showground organisers in rural and regional Victoria and to ensure the ongoing viability of these local groups,” he said
