Cake feast of decorating

THERE will be no shortage of birthday cakes later this month when the Casey branch of the Victorian Cake Decorating Society turns one year old.
Members have been invited to decorate their cake and eat some too when the branch holds its next workshop on Saturday, 21 October.
The Flowers in Spring demonstration will teach cake enthusiasts how to create four different flowers from the one cutter and will coincide with the group’s first birthday.
Member Belinda Dalgleish of Narre Warren said new members were always welcome.
The avid cake decorator said the group currently boasted 37 members and the hobby was for both women and men, old and young.
Ms Dalgleish, 27, specialises in butter cream and decorating children’s birthday cakes.
She said she had inherited her love for the hobby from her grandmother who was a professional cake decorator.
Ms Dalgleish said she loved learning and sharing new skills with fellow group members, several of whom were national and international demonstrators, teachers and judges.
The cake demonstration starts at 1pm and finishes at 4pm. It will be held at the Old Cheese Factory, 34 Homestead Road, Berwick.
Entry is $6 for members and $10 for visitors. Bring a small plate of food to share for afternoon tea.
