Four men bashed by gatecrashers

FOUR men were bashed when a group of youths gatecrashed a Berwick party last Saturday night.
Police said between 20 and 30 youths were denied entry to a party in Earlsfield Drive about 11pm.
The group returned about 30 minutes later, armed with wooden pickets, bricks and rocks, and assaulted the four victims.
Three Berwick men, aged 25, 26 and 43, and a Hallam man, 25, all received minor facial injuries.
Police said ambulance officers were called to the scene but were not required to assist the victims.
The assault comes only days after police issued a warning that two new operations, Stane and Talon, were being launched to stop the rise of anti-social behaviour at Casey parties.
Casey District Inspector Bob Hill said a majority of the problems were occurring at parties that were not registered with police.
Narre Warren Police said they were unsure if the Berwick party was registered under the Party Safe program.
“These new operations are heavily targeting issues associated with youth parties but police cannot be everywhere at once and parents, party hosts and young people need to take more responsibility for their actions,” Insp Hill said.
“We want people to have enjoyable and safe celebrations and work alongside police to achieve this,” he said.
