Casey students urged to try for Anzac Prize

YEAR nine students from Casey are being encouraged to submit entries to the fourth annual Victorian Spirit of Anzac Prize.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley said the prize encourages young Victorians to learn about the sacrifices made by war veterans and promote the values of the Anzac tradition in contemporary life.
“Ten Victorian students will be selected to take the study tour of a lifetime in 2008, travelling to important World War I battlefields in Europe and I would encourage interested young people from Casey to enter,” Ms Graley said.
“Students entering the Victorian Spirit of Anzac Prize will be asked to reflect on how values, such as courage and initiative, have helped Victorian communities stay strong and united in the face of adversity.”
As part of the 2007 study tour, 10 students visited sites in Turkey, France and Belgium including the town of Villers-Bretonneux and the beaches of Anzac Cove.
For the 2008 Victorian Spirit of Anzac Prize, Year 9 students are invited to submit an entry addressing the topic: What values are associated with the Spirit of Anzac? Are these values still relevant to young people today?
Students must register for the competition by 31 August. Final entries must be submitted by 12 October and can take a range of forms including a research essay, poem, musical composition, artwork or an audio, web-based or video presentation.
Application forms are available from school principals or at www.veterans.vic.gov.au
