Council, schools drive new code

DRIVERS parking in and around Casey schools have been put on notice with a new code of conduct set to promote safe driving practices.
The new Casey Council document deals with traffic congestion and inappropriate driving behaviour, such as double parking and parking across crossings and driveways.
The code of conduct promotes the rights and expectations of children, parents, teachers and local private residents as a reminder to how these groups should behave.
Two schools, Trinity Catholic Primary School in Narre Warren South and Cranbourne West Primary School, have already accepted the code of conduct.
A third school, Hillsmeade Primary School, is awaiting approval from its school council to also accept the code of conduct.
The document highlights to parents and carers who are dropping children to and from school to carefully consider their actions and behaviours.
The document will be sent in CD-ROM format to all primary and secondary schools in Casey, and can then be reprinted in school newsletters or made available to parents.
Casey councillor Michael Farley welcomed the council report, and said it outlined a lot of problems around schools.
He urged schools to take the code of conduct on board and promote it within their school communities.
