Down day for Cranbourne

IT was disappointing weekend for Cranbourne Cricket Club with its turf three, A-grade and D-grade sides being defeated and the turf-one game being abandoned after two overs due to rain.

Having already lost the previous week, Cranbourne bowled much better on Saturday with Aaron Morrison (4/25) and Jason Toan (3/77) the pick.
Having to bat again Cranbourne showed a lack of fight, slipping to 5/12. The standout was Andrew Toan with a 51.
The last pair for Cranbourne, Justin Hinkley (32) and Ben Hall (25 not out) added 48 to add some respectability.
HSD achieved the target of 34 off two overs.
Cranbourne 112 and 128 lost outright to HSD 7/207dec and 0/39.

In defence of a decent target, Cranbourne seemed to struggle to achieve early wickets.
This allowed Sandown to play freely and it achieved the score with 27 overs in hand.
Pick of the bowlers was Lee Murdoch who backed up his half century with 2/43 off 10 overs.
Cranbourne 7/209cc lost to Sandown Park 7/211.

After being 50 not-out last week, Chris George capitalised on Saturday, taking his score to a supreme 132.
Supporting him this week was Silvio Marinelli, bowled for a run a ball 93.
Taking the field again Cranbourne only managed to take three wickets with Stuart Mills taking 3/39.

Coming back this week at 4/73 Cranbourne had a sniff, but once the not out partnership ended at 93 for a 60-run partnership, the tail could not help it over the line.
Stars with the bat were stand-in captain Chris Lamb with a fluent 67 and Clinton Franser who made 24.
Cranbourne 142 lost to Hampton Park 183.

Having made a massive 328 the previous week, a confident Cranbourne backed itself up with the ball.
Dennis Kimball took 4/85, Glen Dickinson 3/77 and youngster Keeran Braham 3/5 off only three overs in his best performance for the year

Batting first, Cranbourne once again amassed a huge score.
Opening bastman and captain Al Courtney retired and came back in to stroke a fine hand of 60 not-out. He was well supported in the middle order by Craig Lambden who also retired and came back on the way to a quick 68 not out.
In reply Buckley faltered, thanks to the wily Wayne Stephens with 4/24 and young firebrand Daniel Baker, who took two wickets.

Bowling first Cranbourne had two early breakthroughs, but that was pretty much it for Cranbourne as Coomoora built a decent score in wet conditions.
Pick of the bowlers was Ben Hall with 1/16 off six overs.
In reply Cranbourne gave it a shot, but fell short with Dean McDonnell (29) and Aaron Morrison (22) the pick.

Cranbourne fresh off the bye proceeded to dominate the match against St Mary’s.
Martin Kelly, in what was a fiery spell, produced the extraordinary figures of 6/1 off seven overs with the only run being a no-ball.
Kelly was backed up by Steven Henry who claimed two wickets as well.
Some excellent catching, especially by Greg James helped the team.
Chasing a meagre target, Cranbourne achieved this off three overs with Ricky Ettridge not out on 15.

Coming off its first loss Cranbourne reacted well, making a big target against Noble Park batting first.
Cameron Petrie led the way with 38, while Daniel Patterson (20), Adam Hanger (21) and Lucas Ligt (27 not out) all got starts.
With the ball Daniel Baker was the pick, taking 2/16 off his five overs.

Batting first, Cranbourne got off to a bad start losing two quick wickets.
However Mitchell Viney continued his good form to help his side to a reasonable total.
It would not prove enough as Cranbourne was passed with two overs to spare for its first defeat of the year.

On a small ground Cranbourne bowled first and restricted Fountain Gate to a reasonable score.
The best of the bowlers was Trent Brooks who took 2/8 off two overs.
In reply Cranbourne smashed Fountain Gate all over the place. Jordan Baker (28) and Jordan Shiels (25) both retired with Jason Adams (19 not out), Josh Morrison (15 not out) lending the support.

Batting first Cranbourne got off to a great start with aggressive opener Dylan Bass (26) retiring off almost as many balls.
After that the batting fell away with only James Lesch (21) contributing. With the ball Alex Luscombe and Jeremy Ciantar both took two wickets.

With rain shortening the game Cranbourne bowled first and were set a hard task by Hampton Park.
Matthew Crozier got a wicket in the second over, but after that it was all downhill.
In reply Cranbourne gave a good show with Jordan Brady retiring on 25 and Trent Stoneman also retiring on 25.

The undefeated Cranbourne made an astonishing 4/198 off of 22 overs.
Luke Bartlett (25), Jason Buntine (30), Harley Miller (30), Alex Noonan (28) and Alex Russo (25) all retired.
In reply Hallam was outgunned, especially by Jack Courtney, who had the bats mesmerised with his leg-spin, taking 5/2 off of 4.4 overs.
Backing him up was Jason Buntine with the impressive figures of 2/1 to go with his 30.

In the rain, Cranbourne showed great enthusiasm.
Bowling first, Jed Benham took two wickets while with the bat Chris Moore (15 not out), Jarrod McAleese (19 not out) Mitchell Whitham (17 not out), Jake Smith (14) and Leigh Hanczar (12 not out) all got among the runs to put their team in front.

In what was another strong performance Cranbourne bowled first and held down Hampton Park to only three an over thanks to some straight bowling that only produced five extras in 20 overs, unheard of in this grade.
Ben Dickson took two wickets and a run-out.
In reply Cranbourne gave every team member a bat and did not lose a wicket in passing the opposition’s score.
Bradley Parker (28), Todd McGrath (16), Brayden Roscoe (14) and Cameron Hookey (12) all got amongst the runs.
