Events promote love of tennis

THE City of Casey has served up an ace for locals as tennis fever sweeps across Melbourne.
A week of free, fun tennis activities and events will be held from 27 January as part of Casey Tennis Week.
Residents have the chance to hit the court and try to emulate the likes of Federer, Sharapova and Hewitt during the week long event.
Casey mayor Janet Halsall said the occasion would allow the community to have a go at tennis, check out the facilities available and meet some of the people that run local tennis clubs.
“The aim of Casey Tennis Week is to introduce the community to our local tennis clubs by providing activities and events free of charge,” she said.
“The week of events is scheduled to run after the Australian Open, so I encourage all people inspired by the tennis players at the Australian Open, or those curious about the game of tennis, to take part in some of the fantastic activities on offer.
“Taking part in one or some of the activities may spark an ongoing passion in tennis,” Cr Halsall said.
Some of the free activities available include twilight social tennis, coaching clinics, tournaments and open days as well as free tennis court hire.
Activities will be run by the host tennis club and will vary from venue to venue.
“Throughout Casey Tennis Week there is something on offer for everyone including all ages and abilities.
“I really encourage the community to take advantage of the activities being generously offered by our local tennis clubs and I thank the tennis clubs for their contribution and ongoing commitment.”
For more information about Casey Tennis Week contact Casey’s sports development officer Melanie Timney on 9705 5200 or visit the website at www.casey.vic.gov.au.
