For the All Stars, every move is just routine

BRING it on.
That Hollywood movie put All Star Cheerleading on the map in Australia and now local cheerleading instructor Rebecca Healy is chanting the same thing.
Several of Ms Healy’s students at Dance Dimensions recently returned from the Victorian State Championships with a string of impressive results.
The former dance teacher said the high-energy routines of All Star Cheerleading took parts of gymnastics, aerobics, dance and traditional cheerleading and rolled them all into one performance.
“Most people thinking cheerleading is standing on the sidelines with pom poms, that is what is called recreational cheerleading,” Ms Healy said.
“It is fast, it requires tonnes of fitness and works the kids hard, so they love it.”
Ms Healy said her background as a trained dancer made her start up a local All Star Cheerleading group.
“I looked at it and said I would have loved to have done that as a kid. There are about 30 squads in Victoria and it is getting more popular all the time.”
All Star Cheerleading classes are conducted at Berwick and Officer and the sport is open to both girls and boys.
“The National Championships are on 4 November and there will be interstate squads also coming in for the event.”
Ms Healy said the nationals would be a huge competitive event with many local children set to represent their state.
