High five at Cranbourne

By Marc McGowan
ANAKIE greyhound trainer George Dailly enjoyed a day out at the sixth annual Tricodes meeting at Cranbourne racecourse on Sunday.
Dailly boasts almost 90 greyhounds in his kennel and together with his brother-in-law, Gerald Cunnold, emerged victorious in five of the eight races on the card.
Cunnold was responsible for Flashing Flood’s (TAB $1.40) 10-length romp in the City of Casey Victoria Cup, while Dailly prepared Lockwood Dog Floats Final winner Koutafidies ($2).
The former, who is a daughter of 2003 Victorian Greyhound of the Year Bombastic Shiraz, has now won 14 of its past 16 races, including its past four.
“She had won 10 in a row before getting beaten by a couple of the best in Australia, so she’s pretty special this bitch,” Dailly said.
“She has a race in Sydney next week and then she’ll be heading to Perth for the Galaxy.
“The one in Sydney is worth $60,000 for the winner, so that will be the biggest one for a while.”
He was just as glowing in his praise of Koutafidies, who has its own three-race winning streak going.
“We got the dog when nobody else could get him going. We’ve done a bit of work with him and he’s starting to chase good,” Dailly said.
“It’s always pleasing when you have a dog that you think you couldn’t do anything with and then you finally get him chasing and doing everything right.”
Koutafidies will be aimed at the 530-metre West Australian Derby in a couple of months.
“He’s gone good today (Sunday) and if you run a strong 500 here; you’ll run a strong 530 at Cannington (in Western Australia),” Dailly said.
The other winners from the Anakie kennel were Jumping Tatiana ($3.40) in race two, Ingliss Bale ($2) in race three and Jack Senior ($2) in race seven.
All three competed in heats for the Twin Track Hi Five final that will be run at Sandown Park next Thursday night.
The other two heat winners were Jezibaba ($1.60) in race one and Optimistic One ($3.80) in race four.
Kooweerup trainer Frank Ryan’s bitch, Ryght Way ($2.80), took out the Free For All in the final race of the day.
