Hook in to pirate adventure

By Rebecca Fraser
AHOY me hearties!
Casey kids have been invited to embark on the adventure of a lifetime these school holidays when they come on board and enter the cutthroat world of pirates.
The Berwick Church of Christ will conduct the school holiday program from Monday, 16 January to Friday, 20 January and the theme will be Captain Horatio Splosh in search of the Lost City of Krusos.
Children and family minister Dave Marrett said the program was designed for all primary age children.
He said the morning’s adventure activities would include Incredible Kre8-it crafts where children could build everything from pirate ships to treasure chests and eye patches.
There will also be an Adventure Challenge where children will have the opportunity to be part of team games activities.
Mr Marrett said the program would not be complete without a splash of drama on the high seas and a cast including the church’s puppets Billy Cockatoo and the Emu Creek Gang, together with Deefa the Dog and Ellie Fant.
“The whole week is a high energy approach to fun.
“So come aboard but whatever you do beware of Captain Splosh and his band of questionable characters who will do anything to be the first to find the treasure of the Lost City of Krusos.
Mr Marrett said this would be the largest school holiday activity event held in the whole of the City of Casey and the church had been busy completing the elaborate sets.
He said the entire church would be converted into Treasure Cove complete with a cave, waterfalls, a pirate ship and an Aztec temple.
“The kids can transform into castaways, buccaneers and adventurers and will go on their life long quest.
“There will be treasure buried in the church grounds and treasure maps and there will be a cliff hanger at the end of every day and the children will have to come back to learn what happens,” he said.
Mr Marrett has been working with kids and designing children’s programs for more than 10 years in Australia and the United States and was happy he could bring his experience to the Berwick Church of Christ.
The cost is $2 per child per day and the program runs from 8.30am until 12.30pm.
