Parkers rolled away

RESULTS were mixed for Hampton Park Bowls Club last week, when the VLBA team went to Edithvale and did not handle the windy conditions well, going down by 40 shots overall. On the brighter side, Gail Wilcock, Grace Hogan, Chris Hendrie and skip Ann Westwell fought hard to go down by one shot on the last end.
The SDELBA team fared much better with a 24-shot win over the visiting Bentleigh side. Ray Wood, Gwen Clough, Keith Damon and skip Lance Davis won by two shots. Heather Naismith, Keith McCarthy, Graham Slight and skip Robert Naismith got up by three shots.
Lots of multiples gave Lino DaPos, Chris Hendrie, Ray Leggett and skip Neville Hendrie a win by 19 shots.
The RVBA Division 4 team travelled to Oakleigh and had a tough day with windy conditions and a 12-second green, losing on three rinks, but in a great finish Allan March, Andrew Brandolin, Lance Davis and skip Graham Slight got up by four shots. Les Unwin, Alan Unwin, David Hendrie and skip Geoff Ladner went down by one shot on the last end.
In Division 7, playing at home against Berwick 7, the Parkers recorded a 24-shot win. Merv Gunsun, Gerry Cox, Bob Nicol and skip Ray Leggett put in a big finish to get up by five shots.
Trailing badly in the early stages, Drew Oliver, David Oliver, Heather Naismith and skip Bill Webb got to within six shots of the opposition. Play was even most of the day for both teams, Sheila Scothorne, Rudy Oost, Chris Hendrie and skip Alan Wilcock playing out a draw. Rob Woff, Keith McCarthy, Ann Westwell and skip Werner Melzer had a good 25-shot win.
On Sunday, the traditional yearly match for the Hampton Park-Willow Lodge Shield was played at the Pound Road green. There were two close games and two not so close, but Hampton Park retained the shield for another year.
