Seniors snap up passes

THE city’s senior residents received a free ride recently when they flocked to Fountain Gate to sign up for a free public transport pass.
About 200,000 Victorian seniors have already applied for a Sunday Seniors Pass which provides free city Sunday travel on trains, trams and buses.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan attended the registration point at Fountain Gate Shopping Centre last week and said the travel initiative was another good reason for senior Victorians to get active, socialise with their friends and go for their lives.
“It was fitting then that during the Seniors Festival Week, when there is a whole range of activities to encourage older Victorians to get out and about, that we provided another opportunity to sign up for this fantastic initiative.
Cardholders are able to obtain a wide range of discounted goods and services including free entry to the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne Museum, Scienceworks, the Ian Potter Gallery, the State Library, the George Adams Gallery at the Arts Centre and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image. “For instance, seniors can now plan a Sunday in the city around a gallery visit and travel there and back free of charge,” Mr Donnellan said.
