Storm warning

By Rebecca Fraser
WILD winds kept the Narre Warren SES busy on Monday night with volunteers coming to the rescue across Casey.
Residents in Doveton, Endeavour Hills, Narre Warren and Cranbourne West sent out calls for help with the SES unit kept busy from 7.30pm.
Narre Warren SES controller Brett Reddy said volunteers had responded to a mix of calls throughout the evening, finally clocking off at 7.30am on Tuesday morning.
He said volunteers attended a home in Cranbourne West where the roof of a pergola had come away.
Crews also attended to a Laurel Avenue home in Doveton when a tree fell on to power lines.
Mr Reddy said the electricity company disconnected the power before SES volunteers moved the tree.
In nearby Endeavour Hills, volunteers attended to a tree over a driveway and also helped secure a shed that almost blew away in George Chudleigh Drive in Hallam.
After a few hours of respite Mr Reddy said the crew was back on the road when a tree limb fell down on A’Beckett Road, Narre Warren.
During the night the SES also tended to a garage door that had blown ajar in Victoria Road, Narre Warren.
Mr Reddy encouraged residents to check that their trees, roofs and gutters were secure and ready for the winter.
“People should check trees within close proximity to their homes and see if they are safe, sound and secure.
“If they think a tree is questionable they should get an arborist out to check if it is safe,” he said.
Mr Reddy also recommended that residents check their roof tiles, capping tiles and pergola roofs and make sure their garden sheds were properly secured to the concrete slab.
