ENDEAVOUR Hills residents have won the first stage in their bid to stop an eight-unit development being built in their neighbourhood.
Casey Council voted to refuse the planning permit for the Kennington Park Drive property at last week’s planning meeting.
Almost half of the 27 residents who objected to the proposal, which detailed the eight two-storey units to be built behind the existing house, attended the meeting.
Spokesperson for the residents Lynne Pal said they were delighted with the decision and believed it would keep the character of the street intact.
“We have a fairly unique set-up here where we are all on one acre. We are only 10 minutes from the freeway but we still have a sort of country feel,” Ms Pal said.
She said all 27 residents were happy they had stood up and been heard in regards to their thoughts on the proposed development.
“We have done all we can now and we will just leave it for the time being,” Ms Pal said.
Nick Zahlan, who is handling the proposed development for the landowners, said they would appeal the decision at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Mr Zahlan said all planning guidelines had been followed in the proposal and he was confident in the appeal process.
He said there were several properties in the close vicinity, including Frawley Road and Essex Park Drive, which had similar developments to the proposed one in Kennington Park Drive.
A date is yet to be set for the appeal.
