LOCAL police are disappointed with the 763 motorists nabbed during a month-long traffic blitz along Monash Freeway.
The around-the-clock Operation Linker finished on Monday with police detecting more than 880 offences-including 380 drivers caught exceeding the speed limit and 152 motorists driving un-roadworthy cars.
Police said many drivers showed blatant disregard to the heightened police presence, which was heavily publicised.
Among the motorists booked were 40 learner or probationary licence holders, 14 drink-drivers and 78 drivers caught using mobile telephones.
Region 4 Assistant Commissioner Bob Hastings said he was disappointed by the behaviour of motorists and the alarming results would ensure the operation would take place again in the near future. He said police would analyse the results of the Monash campaign and identify how to best target problem areas and dangerous behaviour along the busy carriageway in the future.
