Bowlers shine for Narre Warren

A GOOD bowling performance ensured that Narre Warren’s turf-one team easily defended its first-innings total of 237 against Buckley Ridges on Saturday.
Bowling well from the start and putting pressure on the opposition with a few early wickets, Narre Warren bowled Buckley out for 118.
Les Brown 3/17, Chris Pentland 3/21 and John Simpson 3/32.
A GRADE
With Narre Warren defending only 107 and Doveton resuming at 2/16, it was a game in the balance.
However, not enough chances were created in the first hour with the batsmen taking the score to 2/82 before two quick wickets fell.
Doveton passed the target with only four wickets down and went on to be all out for 181.
Mark Sarlija was the main wicket taker with three, Ben Charles and Damien Robins both chipped in with two each.
It was a very disappointing day for Narre Warren with six dropped catches and numerous misfields allowing no pressure to be put on the visitors.
It was encouraging for Narre Warren to keep the opposition under 200 and losing by 75 runs.
B GRADE
Narre Warren returned to face Buckley Ridges defending 268, but was unable to do this.
Narre Warren only took four wickets and Buckley Ridges won the game with 4/339.
E GRADE
Narre was chasing 157 at Coomoora, unfortunately wickets fell regularly during the innings and fell a disappointing nine runs short of the target.
Rob Brew top scored with 30 and Roy Huke made 21.
ONE DAY
Winning the toss, Narre Warren elected to bat.
A solid opening partnership between Shaun VanDam and Regan Welburn of 36 runs gave Narre a good start.
A further partnership between Welburn and Andy Hyndman added a further 35 runs for 2/71.
At 4/99 there was a middle-order collapse resulting in three wickets lost for six runs.
Frank Welburn and Onrae Ferdinands steadied and the team made 141 by the compulsory closure.
Best of the bats were Frank Welburn 35 not out, Regan Welburn 30.
Tight bowling from Derek Horne and Danny Gajdos had St Mary’s 4/46, Narre winning by 11 runs.
Best of the bowlers were Danny Gajdos 4/42, Andy Hyndman 3/12. Man of the match, Frank Welburn.
UNDER 15 (2)
Bowling last week, Narre dismissed Keysborough for 184. Best of the bowlers were Rokhan Yousafzai 3/20 and Jim VanDam 2/39.
Complacency in the field helped Keysborough in the middle order before Narre tightened up.
Sent into bat for five overs Narre ended the day 1/8.
Kushal Khan was out without adding to his overnight score, Rokhan Yousafzai made a good 27 before being caught.
Wickets then fell regularly with Narre 6/82. Roman Jukoff made 16, Matt Harding 13. Joel Kent and Shavintha Goonawardena then added 54.
However, then losing three quick wickets Narre went on to be all out for 154.
UNDER 15 (3)
Narre was defending 176 and bowled well to restrict Doveton North to 7/78cc.
Narre won by 98 runs. Brett Milner took 2/8, Mark Blanco 2/6 were the best of the bowlers

Chasing Buckley Ridges’ score of 89, Narre Warren batted solidly to finish at 7/164.
Batting was solid with Jack Spreckley and Dylan Quirk top scoring with 25 retired. Matthew Clarke and Nathan King also batted well.

North Dandenong got off to a good start in the first ten overs before Narre finally started to get wickets.
Best of the bowlers were Matt Rettalick 1/13, Luke Clarke 1/11 with North Dandenong winning by 14 runs.

Defending 86 runs, Narre Warren was always going to be under pressure with Cranbourne passing the total before the loss of a wicket.
Persistence and some good bowling by Eshan Peiris and Jamayne vanCulenberg eventually had the opposition all out for 163.
