POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a middleaged man was assaulted in Berwick.
They said an altercation occurred at the intersection of Greaves Road and Clyde Road on Tuesday, 20 September following a minor traffic incident.
The man was driving a silver 2003 Holden Commodore station wagon about 4.40pm and pulled up in Greaves Road, where he was approached by at least two men. They assaulted the man on the roadway beside his car and on the nature strip outside Costello’s Hotel in Berwick. The man sustained substantial injuries to his face and body.
Police believe the men then fled in a lightcoloured vehicle. No description of the attackers has been given.
A man, possibly driving a 4WD, assisted thevictim and police were appealing for him to come forward.

JEWELLERY valued at more than $20,000 was stolen from three bedside tables in Endeavour Hills last week as the victims slept.
Police said the burglary occurred between 10pm last Saturday and 7am next day at a Leprosa Close home.
A 1.5carat pair of white gold stud earrings, a white gold bracelet valued at $17,000, a man’s watch and a bracelet were also taken, as well as two mobile phones.
ABOUT $100 in loose change and small notes has been stolen from a pizza restaurant in Spring Square, Hallam. Police said the incident occurred about 6.15am last Saturday, when the restaurant’s back window was broken.
A NEW motorbike valued at $3300 has been stolen from a Cantwell Road home in Narre Warren North. The white and red Yamaha Raptor was stolen between 10.30pm on Monday, 19 September and 6am next day.
PLASMA televisions continue to be the stolen goods of choice for local thieves. A Canberra Avenue home in Berwick became the most recent target when a Teac Plasma television valued at $2800 was stolen.
A Sony TRV video camera was also taken as well as about $250 in loose coins.
GOODS valued at more than $2000 have been stolen from a Robert Molyneux Road home in Endeavour Hills. Thieves entered the garage and broke into a car.
A Panasonic camera, Nokia phone and a laptop were stolen.
