THE reward fund set up to help catch the person responsible for torturing a Berwick cat last month has grown to $1500.
Narre Warren resident Suzanne, who wished to withhold her surname, said she was adding $500 in the hope the person responsible for abusing Bullet was caught.
“It just makes me sick that somebody out there could be doing such a thing,” she said.
“I was absolutely flabbergasted when I read it. It made me so angry. It could be a starting point for further violence.”
Bullet’s injuries included a dislocated tail, burnt hair and major internal damage as a result of sexual abuse.
The injuries were so extensive that Bullet was put down.
Suzanne said she hoped more people would donate to the reward fund, which was set up by businessman Michael Ross last week.
Mr Ross, who added $1000, said someone must have some information about Bullet’s abuser.
“Someone out there may know who committed this despicable act against Bullet and it is my hope that a financial reward will tempt somebody to come forward with information the police can use to catch the perpetrator,” Mr Ross said.
Mr Ross thanked those who had expressed a desire to add to the fund which is being coordinated by law firm MW Law.
“I will be announcing an updated reward total on a regular basis as the fund grows.
“Money received into the fund will be payable to any person who provides police with information leading to a court conviction of the persons responsible for Bullet’s injuries.”
Mr Ross said if the reward was not paid by 15 January, 2009, all money would be donated to RSPCA Victoria animal cruelty unit.
“Claims will be paid when MW Law and I are satisfied that information provided to police has genuinely led to a conviction.
“All information provided in reward claims will be treated as strictly confidential,” he said.
Anyone wishing to contribute to Bullet’s reward fund can send a cheque payable to: MW Law Trust Account – Bullet, MW Law, P.O. Box 21 (or 526 Whitehorse Road), Mitcham, VIC, 3132.
Anyone with any information about the crime is asked to contact Narre Warren Police on 9705 3111 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and remain anonymous.
