AN excellent 91 not-out by Cranbourne turf-one’s Shane Murdoch helped his side recover to a competitive 237 against Narre Warren on Saturday.
Cranbourne won the toss and decided to bat first and after a solid opening partnership of 44 runs, stumbled to be 6/91.
However the Narre Warren bowlers hadn’t counted on the dashing, hard-hitting batting of Murdoch.
In support was Danny Diweel who posted 45 before losing his wicket.
With 12 overs to go Cranbourne made the most of its chances, claiming two wickets, including one in the last over of the day to young tweaker Andrew Toan.

Needing a win to avoid relegation Cranbourne batted first against Narre Warren and in what became a theme of the day lost early wickets to two lbw decisions.
However a handy partnership between two of the side’s veterans, Deiter Leinmueller (43) and returning ‘prodigal son’ Ashley Oats (43) put the team in a healthier position, along with youngster Dustin Peebles (25).
Matty Johns came in late for a swashbuckling 52 with support from Steve Miller, (35).
Bowling, Cranbourne took early wickets in a match now hanging in the balance.

On a day where most batsmen got a start, only two went on with it. Youngster Lucas Ligt played his most impressive inning as a senior to post 66 runs in an extremely classy display.
Dan Parker also found the bowling to his liking, hitting 40 in the middle order.
Losing 6/33 at the end was costly however and cheapened the hard work done by the top order.
In 12 overs in the field, quickie Ben Hall took 1/12 off six overs and effected an amazing direct-hit run-out.

Gearing up for finals Cranbourne faced stiff opposition in Keysborough.
The only batsman to fire was opener Chris George who made a dominant 58 at the top of the inning.
Chris Lamb and Stuart Mills hung around for 21 each.
With the bowlers needing to fire, Richard Young and Stuart Mills each took one early.

Cranbourne bowled first against Parkfield and found early inroads hard to make with the score getting to 102 before a wicket fell.
After the first one however, wickets came regularly with the pick of the bowlers being Daniel Fox with 3/26. Glen Dickinson and Keeran Braham both claimed two wickets each.

Bowling at Casey fields is always hard, but Cranbourne did well to restrict HSD to 180.
The highlight of the day was the final over, where Jake Harrington took three wickets in the last four ball and was chaired off the field.
The fielding was also a highlight with two run-outs and a stumping.
