Cautious start for Narre Warren

AFTER bowling Parkfield out for 144 and being well-placed at 0/23 at the resumption of their Turf One match, Narre Warren began the day cautiously on a wicket that was slow and hard to score from.
With Doig bowling most of the day from one end Narre Warren found scoring tough, but moved closer to the target.
With captain Wendell Perumal and under 21 representative Matt Darvell put on 83 before the former was out for 45.
Darvell continued with Mick Dennis and the duo took the score to 108 before Darvell was out for 39 off 176 balls.
Dennis and last game’s centurion John Simpson took the score to 131 before Simpson was out for 5.
Shane Simpson then headed to the crease, finishing not out on 8 with Dennis not out on a well compiled 32 including one towering six into the pavilion.
A well-constructed win for Narre Warren.

Narre Warren resumed at 2/40 and after three quick wickets and with the score at 47, Ben Charles and Mark Jensen-Schmidt were making solid progress.
Jensen-Schmidt fell 16 overs later for a flawless 46 runs with the score on 97.
Charles (50 not out) and Steven Woodward (54 not out) then passed the required score in the 71st over.

Narre Warren continued to defend 160 and had Hallam 1/56 at the end of the first day’s play.
The team fought hard but Hallam had the better day, passing the score just before tea.
Best of the bowlers were Bryce Millar (1/49 from 23 overs) and Mick Teeuw (3/75 from 23 overs).
Jamie Heins put in a great day in the field and bowled well for 1/10 off nine overs.

In an intense second day, Narre Warren got the points over Maranatha Methodist at Sweeney Reserve.
Defending 159, Narre Warren bundled out Maranatha for 95 with the best bowling and fielding display for the season.
Narre Warren’s bowlers maintained a good line and forced the Maranatha batsmen into numerous false shots, with few chances going down.
An ugly mid-wicket collision before tea saw Narre Warren strike bowler Gareth Rees knocked to the ground and tempers become somewhat frayed.
However, Narre Warren was able to focus its energy on the job at hand after tea and despite a few more anxious moments, bowl the opposition out shortly after.
All bowlers contributed, with Gareth Rees taking five.
Two catches to Brett Hay at first slip capped off a good day for Narre Warren.

Resuming at 0/1, Narre Warren made a good start against St Mary’s with Matt Clarke and James Giertz making a fine start.
Giertz was run out for 20 before Josh Amsterdam and Clarke continued, passing the 94 runs required with more than 10 overs to spare.
Clarke retired with 50. Amsterdam was out for 30, which included some good running combined with some hard hitting.
Narre Warren finished on 4/139 with some handy batsmen still to come.
The highlight was the great running between wickets on a slow outfield.

After resuming at 1/58 and bowling out Noble Park for 61, Narre continued to bat for another 10 overs and declared innings at 3/100.
Narre Warren’s second-wicket partnership of 71 produced by Jordan Muzzolini (35) and Jordan (Toole 28 not out) was a pleasure to watch.
With 35 overs remaining to be bowled, Noble Park was sent in for a second dig and a chance of winning outright.
To the credit of the openers, who batted well, Narre Warren couldn’t manage a breakthrough, but bowled and fielded well to restrict the opposition to 0/49 after 35 overs.
Narre Warren won the match by seven wickets on the first innings.

Narre Warren won by 29 runs after some great fielding and early wickets.
Best of the bowlers were Jacob Waller (2/18) and Matt Retallick (2/21), also some late bowling by Sean O’Neill (1/7) and Luke Clarke (1/7).
Jamayne Vancuylenburg was unlucky to miss out on a wicket, bowling six overs for 0/13.

Defending 171, the players worked hard as a team and contained the opposition to 157.
The talk out on the field, the concentration with the bowling, the catching, fielding and backing up were all exactly what was needed.

The team started well but failed to keep going, finishing on 9/129.
Best of the bats was Zach Allen with an unbeaten 28.

After Narre Warren made 209 the previous week, Fountain Gate was never in the hunt, up against some tight bowling and excellent fielding.
Narre Warren restricted Fountain Gate to 111 from 40 overs.
Best of the bowlers were Mitchell Healey (2/6 off four overs), Travis Johnston (1/10 from four) and Shilpa Weerasekera (0/7 off four).

Narre Warren, playing HSD at Hillcrest, made 76 to lose by 26 runs.
The players bowled and fielded well, starting the day with HSD at 1/32 to capture 9/70.

Playing Cranbourne, Narre Warren won the toss and bowled.
Opener Chris Bell-Janke (1/14) was excellent, as were Ahmed Saeed (1/13) and Ankit Bhushana (1/24).
Cranbourne finished with 130 runs.
Narre Warren then batted with Kailem Dirckze making 8, Bell-Janke 9, Madhura Bandara 6, and Liam Dirckze 9 as the team scored a total of 82.

Narre Warren travelled to Strathaird oval to take on Maranatha Methodist.
On a small ground, Narre Warren did well to restrict Maranatha to 62 runs from 24 overs.
Best of the bowlers were Cameron Marshall (3/4 off three overs), Caleb Johnstone (0/3 from two) and Nathan DeSilva (1/5 from two).
After 24 overs Narre Warren scored 110, with Joshua West making 16, Travis Healey 12 and Nicholas Lane hitting his first four in making 6 runs.

Narre Warren’s captain Swetha Ranashinge lost the toss, and Hampton Park decided to bat first.
Narre Warren’s bowling and fielding improved, with the first catch for the year taken, and a total of five catches taken for the innings.
Narre Warren played plenty of good shots, but was unable to get it past the fielders.
The running between wickets was excellent with all players making loud calls to their batting partners.
Best players were Declan McIvor, Rudith Pussalle and Demitha Ranashinge.
