CASEY Council is calling out for the Red Cross.
Plans are afoot to try and have a permanent Red Cross Blood Bank opened in the city, possibly located at Berwick’s Casey Hospital.
Councillor Wayne Smith, himself a regular blood donor, said a permanent facility with regular opening hours would make it more convenient for local residents to give blood.
At Tuesday’s council meeting he moved that the council invite representatives from the Red Cross to meet with the council and consider the establishment of a permanent blood bank facility in Casey. The facility would be similar to a Red Cross Blood Bank recently opened in Ringwood, and Cr Smith said the centre would be of great benefit to Casey residents.
Cr Lorraine Wreford agreed, saying given the City of Casey’s size and booming population, a permanent blood bank would be a great idea.
