ENDEAVOUR Hills students got up close and personal with a true champion of the turf on Tuesday.
Melbourne Cup winner Subzero galloped into the grounds of St Paul Apostle South Primary School and had the students wanting to know all about the gracious horse and his equine feats.
Owner Graham Salisbury joined ‘Subby’ on the visit and spoke to the children about the many adventures the two have had together.
The horse tour coincided with a recent excursion the grade three and four students took as part of the Champions Schools Education Program in the Racing Museum at Federation Square.
Principal Pauline D’Astoli said she was thrilled to have the gentle grey gelding grace the grass at the school.
“Our students and their parents were excited to meet an icon of Melbourne horseracing, Subzero, not on the racetrack but at school,” Ms D’Astoli said.
The program has been developed to help students at primary and secondary level understand why racing in Australia – was – and still is so important.
