Casey residents move to grab home grant

FIRSTHOME buyers in Casey have embraced the State Government’s $5000 first home bonus with 2237 people taking up the grant to the end of the last financial year.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan said in financial terms, the $11.185 million Casey residents had gained in housing assistance was at the top of the pile for any Victorian municipality.
“This figure is a record for any municipality in Victoria,” he said.
“It’s the highest takeup rate on record for any council.
“People are moving into Casey in their droves and the Bracks Government is standing sidebyside with local families.
“We’ve helped 2237 families to date.”
State Treasurer John Brumby said new figures from the State Revenue Office showing Victoria had the highest number of firsthome buyers in the nation confirmed the $5000 grant was working.
“Victoria has now outstripped New South Wales with the highest number of firsthome buyers purchasing property in the last financial year,” he said.
Eligible firsthome buyers receive $12,000 when they purchase their first house, made up of the Federal Government’s $7000 first home owners grant and the State Government’s $5000 first home bonus.
“The Bracks Government is doing its part to make sure housing remains affordable across Casey and that all Victorians have a chance to purchase their first home,” Mr Donnellan said.
