THE City of Casey’s 2008 Citizens of the Year Award nominees have been announced.
Some of Casey’s most outstanding community members will receive top honours at the annual ceremony, to be held on Australia Day.
Casey mayor Janet Halsall said: “On behalf of the City of Casey, I would like to congratulate all the nominees for the significant work that earned them award nominations this year.
“Nineteen individuals, all of whom have made significant contributions to our community, as well as six community events, were nominated for awards this year. I wish them all the very best.”
“A common element in thriving communities is people who are willing to give their time and energy and take on extra responsibilities to benefit the lives of those around them.
“It is fantastic that these efforts are being recognised and that neighbours, colleagues and acquaintances have taken the initiative to nominate these special individuals,” Cr Halsall said.
Of this year’s 25 nominees, 10 residents are nominated for Citizen of the Year, three for Young Citizen of the Year, six for Senior Citizen of the Year and there are six nominations for Community Event of the Year.
The successful City of Casey Australia Day Study Tour recipients will also be recognised at the Australia Day ceremony.
Several Year 11 students will have the opportunity to observe and learn about Federal, State and Local Government in a five-day tour.
All nominees will be presented with certificates and the winner of each category will be announced at the Awards ceremony on Australia Day and published on the City of Casey website at www.casey.vic.gov.au/australiaday.
