CASEY pet owners may be in for some financial relief following last week’s council meeting.
Civic leaders voted to investigate the possibility of offering incentives for dog and cat owners to register their pets.
Other options to be investigated include reducing the value of fines for owners of registered pets as well as owners of registered pets receiving a first offence exemption.
Casey councillor Kevin Bradford moved the motion, saying it was designed to encourage more people to register their pets.
There are more than 27,800 registered dogs and about 8470 registered cats in the City of Casey.
Council will not register a dog or cat that has not been implanted with a microchip.
Pet owners can be hit with a $551 fine if their pet is not registered with council.
