VOLUNTEERS set up shop in Centro Cranbourne shopping centre last week calling for residents to “Wear Australia’s Pride” and buy a badge for Legacy.
Legacy is a nongovernment funded support and welfare organisation for the dependents of war veterans who were killed in action or have since died.
The volunteers, including members from both Cranbourne and Dandenong/West Gippsland Legacy groups, raised almost $1000 for national Legacy Week.
Area Leader Brian Reeves said the aim was to raise awareness of Legacy and the work its volunteers carry out in helping more than 130,000 widows and 2000 children Australiawide.
“It was a really successful week,” Mr Reeves said.
“There are a lot of people out there who don’t know about Legacy, especially schoolchildren.
“I think it’s a real shame that it isn’t taught in their curriculum.
“The week aims to raise awareness of the work Legacy does by providing welfare, pension, housing and legal advice and why it carries such significance,” he said.
