Man injured in citizen’s arrest

A CITIZEN’S arrest in Narre Warren South turned ugly on Sunday when the man being apprehended received serious head injuries.
Police said the drama started after a Narre Warren South resident caught a glimpse of a man who was in the process of breaking into his Ormiston Place house.
The would-be thief fled but was apprehended in a nearby street by the resident a few hours later.
The intruder received a range of injuries, including a fractured eye socket and broken cheekbone, while being detained by the Narre Warren South resident.
Police have since charged the injured man, a 30-year-old Cranbourne resident, with burglary, theft, assault and theft of a motor car.
He has been remanded to appear in Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on 28 September.
Narre Warren Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the citizen’s arrest and have asked anyone who may have information about the incident to contact 9705 3114.
