Police out to grab purse thief

POLICE believe a serial purse snatcher who is preying on workplaces in the Casey area will strike again.
The thief has struck on four occasions since 5 February – each time making his way to the staff room of the business and stealing cash, credit cards and purses.
Employees at St John of God Hospital in Berwick, The $2 Shop in Fountain Gate and Clarke Rubber and Toy World in Narre Warren have all been targeted.
Casey Criminal Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Brian Whitehead said there may be more local businesses that have been raided by the thief.
He said the bandit was seen loitering around the St John of God Hospital corridors at about 9.40am on 5 February.
He was confronted in an office area before he fled without being apprehended.
A Louis Vuitton purse containing cash had been stolen from an office in the hospital.
Several hours later the man was seen in the delivery storage area at Clarke Rubber.
After he left, two employees noticed their purses, containing cash and credit cards, had been stolen.
Police said the thief made his way to The $2 Shop about 20 minutes later where he was seen walking around the store before entering a staff room and stealing cash from two purses.
Two purses were also stolen from Toy World in Casey Central Shopping Centre the following day.
Det Sen Const Whitehead said police believe the same person is responsible for all of the thefts.
He is described as being aged in his mid-20s, of thin build and wearing a grey cap and jeans.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det Sen Const Whitehead on 9705 3114.
