Fast-track plan

A BETTER transport system is needed in the south-east, according to local councils.
The South-East Australian Transport Strategy (SEATS), which looks at measures needed to improve transport in the south-east of Australia, met for the first time in Cardinia last Friday.
Casey mayor Kevin Bradford and councillor Rob Wilson brought up a number of local transport concerns.
SEATS chief executive officer Chris Vardon said one issue raised by Cr Bradford was the Cranbourne Bypass and where he hoped it would run.
Mr Vardon said other items of interest included the third rail line going through Dandenong, as well as the Pakenham Bypass.
He said Casey, along with other councils in the south-east, had appealed to SEATS about a number of improvements.
“We have indicated that we will assist them in promoting these improvements to Government,” he said.
“We will also be preparing an election policy document to give to major parties.”
Cardinia Shire assets and developments manager Paul Healy said the council representatives had also looked at a strategic approach to get funding for road works in the Cardinia-Casey area.
