LOCAL community groups are to benefit from the Volunteer Small Equipment Grants (VSEG) program.
A total of 49 local community groups will share the funding worth more than $100,000.
Narre Warren Basketball Club will get $2450 to spend on uniforms, Endeavour Hills Cricket Club’s $2400 grant will go towards the purchase of first aid kits and sunshades, Hallam Fire Brigade will use $1775 to purchase fire-fighting equipment and $1591 for the Hartley Ridge-Singleton Preschool in Endeavour Hills which will go towards a first aid kit, filing cabinet and an overhead projector.
“The Federal Government recognises that local volunteer groups and sporting clubs are the heart of our local communities, so it is only fitting they receive the appropriate level support,” he said.
“Ultimately local groups are best placed to judge their needs, but too often they lack the financial resources needed.
“This funding has been allocated to local community groups and sporting clubs who will now be able to purchase much-needed equipment.”
Successful recipients of the Federal Government grant include local netball, cricket and football clubs, as well as other community and volunteer groups.
