‘Insufficient evidence’ in drink allegations

POLICE say they have found no evidence to support allegations that a Casey councillor took alcohol from the council offices.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ian Wilcox of Narre Warren Police this week said police had found no evidence to support “allegations of impropriety” against Cr Mick Morland.
He said he had written to City of Casey CEO Mike Tyler last week informing him that after an investigation police had not found sufficient evidence to charge anyone.
Earlier this year a subcommittee was formed comprising mayor Kevin Bradford, Cr Rob Wilson, CEO Mike Tyler and manager of corporate services Steve Dalton to consider the operation and use of facilities within councillors’ rooms, after allegations surrounding Cr Morland surfaced.
Springfield Ward Councillor Michael Farley then took the allegations to police, who investigated the matter.
Cr Morland, who is also the Liberal candidate for Narre Warren North, has always vehemently denied the claims he had taken drinks from the councillor’s room.
In March, Cr Morland told the News he had no problems with Cr Farley contacting the police as he had done nothing wrong.
“I have no problem with him putting this in the hands of police,” he said.
“I want this to be resolved so this rubbish does not go any further. I want this to be brought to a head so I can go on doing what I do.”
Casey Council will not be taking any further action regarding the claims.
