Kids get serious play money

SOUTHERN Cross Primary School students were jumping for joy this week after funding was announced to upgrade their playground.
More than $140,000 will be spent on the new facilities including the establishment of a new shade structure and playing environment to encourage physical activity and student interaction.
Victorian Senator Mitch Fifield was at the Endeavour Hills school to make the announcement as part of the Federal Government’s grant $1.18 billion Investing In Our Schools Program.
“I congratulate the parents, teachers and students of Southern Cross Primary School for all their hard work in bringing this wonderful learning facility to fruition,” Mr Fifield said.
“The Coalition Government is committed to ensuring that our children enjoy first class learning facilities.
“We are doing this by providing schools with the means to purchase whatever it is they say they need.
“Our local schools are better placed to identify what they need than politicians in Canberra or Spring Street.
“A strong national economy means that the dividends of good economic management can flow to our local schools for important projects such as this,” he said.
