Local cops heed distant call

ENDEAVOUR Hills police were called out to a party in Drouin last Thursday to help contain a violent brawl.
Acting Sergeant Graeme Stanley of Endeavour Hills police said both he and another officer were called in to support officers from Pakenham, Drouin, Warragul, Morwell and Moe when the violence escalated and a fellow colleague was injured.
“The initial units encountered problems so we came down with two officers from Pakenham to provide extra assistance.
“It was unusual to be called to a job so far away but more assistance was required and they needed more officers.
“We helped contain the area as we waited for the force response team to arrive.
“It was still quite violent, bottles were still being thrown when we got there and the police vehicle was still being damaged by party goers,” Act Sgt Stanley said.
Police believe up to 50 people attended the Ferris Street party. Seven people have been arrested and charged in relation to the brawl.
One police officer was hit with a bottle and suffered cuts and abrasions to his head. Paramedics treated him at the scene.
Two police vehicles were also damaged in the incident, sustaining smashed windows and windscreens and dents and scratches.
Police tried to enter the premises to resolve the situation. They later called in further police reinforcements including three canine units, three vans and members of the Force Response Unit from Melbourne.
Capsicum spray was also deployed inside the house.
