Name change to end confusion

By Sarah Schwager
A CONTROVERSIAL Narre Warren North road will be renamed after consistent problems finding the street, which is fragmented in three sections.
Section one of Drysdale Avenue, which runs off Belgrave-Hallam Road, will become Glen Vista Drive, after Casey Council voted to change the name to alleviate community and emergency services concerns.
Section two of the avenue will also be renamed once council has consulted with the residents on a new name.
Deputy mayor Rob Wilson said the change would alleviate problems that residents in the area had dealt with for 20 years.
The road is divided in three sections, with roadblocks distorting the three strips of street, blocking access to two of the sections from the main road.
Councillor Paul Richardson argued that rather than change the street names, the road should be opened so that it goes straight through to Belgrave-Hallam Road.
He moved an amendment that the decision be deferred to a later council meeting.
“The residents deserve that road to be opened,” Cr Richardson said.
“A lady nearly died once when an ambulance went down the wrong street.”
However, the amendment was lost, with council deciding to change the name to ensure that houses on the street could be easily identified, particularly in an emergency.
