New baby guide a safety feature

CASEY’S new parents can now read up on all the latest safety advice for their children with a new information package.
The pack, titled Safe Products for your Baby Guide, includes advice on buying common items such as nightclothes, toy boxes, baby bath aids, bassinettes, change tables and child car-restraints.
Minister for Consumer Affairs Daniel Andrews was in Narre Warren South to give parents a copy recently.
Mr Andrews said more than 10,000 copies had been distributed in the six months since the launch of the book.
“Many parents are now much better placed to protect their baby’s safety,” Mr Andrews said.
“I urge new and expectant parents to pick up a copy of the guide to help minimise the risk of injury from unsafe infant and nursery products.”
Consumer Affairs Victoria worked with The Royal Children’s Hospital, the Infant and Nursery Products Association and Monash University Accident Research Centre to develop the guide.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley said the guide also included a list of banned products and information on items not meant for babies, such as bunk beds, bean bags and antique nursery furniture.
“This has been a fantastic initiative for the local area,” Ms Graley said.
Anyone who would like a copy of the guide can contact Ms Graley’s office on 9704 6055.
