Reasons to applaud

MORE than 500 music lovers attended Casey’s Battle of the Bands final in Cranbourne last month.
Local band Silver Reasons took out the top prize, while there were impressive efforts from several other bands.
Casey’s manager of youth and family services, Lee McIntosh, said: “Casey’s music scene is alive and well, with yet again a fresh crop of new bands competing in the Battle of the Bands final.
“Congratulations to all the bands for taking part and especially to the overall winner Silver Reasons.”
Ms McIntosh said the Battle of the Bands competition gave young bands the experience of playing live to a packed audience and getting a taste for the business.
“The series is about trying something new, playing to a crowd and enjoying it. Winning the competition is a bonus and can launch a band to the next step in their journey, with Pony Studios donating 10 hours of recording time, Spectrum Entertainment providing a gig opportunity at their end of year event in November, and the chance to represent Casey in the regional finals to be held in Frankston later this year.”
The Push Start Battle of the Bands competition attracted close to 1300 people over the two heats and final and saw My Own Enemy and Machiavelli come a close second to the winning band.
The next event will be held at the Narre Warren Community Learning Centre on Friday, 14 September, from 6pm to 11pm and will feature last year’s Battle of the Bands winner The Landlords.
