Relay hits stride

THE Casey Cardinia Relay For Life team are certainly not unwinding as they prepare to launch their 2007 walk.
On Monday 24 July, local residents have been invited to come along and find out more about the Casey Relay for Life, when the 2007 event is launched at Let’s Unwine (formerly Uncorked Wines) in Berwick.
From 7pm keen walkers can come along to Let’s Unwine to learn more about the annual fundraiser for The Cancer Council Victoria.
The event has raised close to $100,000 for cancer research, education and support programs in the last three years.
Committee co-chair Deborah Ditchburn said it was a good opportunity for the Berwick community to see what Relay For Life was about.
Mrs Ditchburn said the relay was a unique 24-hour team event that remembered those who struggled with cancer.
“It’s a memorable event filled with fun, laughter and the occasional tear. We adopt a festival atmosphere involving all ages and all sectors of the community, coming together to celebrate life.”
“Everyone involved in Relay gets great satisfaction out of knowing that the money raised goes to the Cancer Council and helps in the fight for a cancer-free future.”
“It is also a fantastic opportunity for teams and supporters from our 2006 event to re-group and celebrate our success.”
The launch of the 2007 Relay For Life event will coincide with the official renaming of uncorked wines to Let’s Unwine, with a showcase of the Let’s Unwine range.
Let’s Unwine owner Leon Horaczko said he was thrilled to be helping Mrs Ditchburn and the dedicated team of volunteers start their team recruitment drive.
The 2007 Relay For Life event will be held at Akoonah Park from 6pm Friday March 2 until 6pm Saturday March 3.
Registration is $15 and includes a Relay For Life branded sun smart polo shirt, handbook and fundraising materials.
