LETTUCE lovers were set to stage a sumo-sized protest in Narre Warren this morning when American doughnut chain Krispy Kremes officially opened its doors.
The Australian fast-food company SumoSalad said they would be joining the hungry hoards flocking to the opening of Krispy Kremes’ first store in Victoria from 6.30am.
However, instead of waiting in line for doughnuts, the company said they would be initiating a protest against the US giant to deliver one message – do not become an obesity statistic by eating fatty junk food treats; eat a healthy balanced diet instead.
News of the publicity stunt surfaced yesterday with protesters planning to head in convoy to the official opening of the store, at which doughnut fans were expected to camp overnight to be the first in line.
