Water watchdogs loose

WATER wasters will now be under a close watch as more than 50 patrol officers hit the streets to report people breaking water restrictions.
The South East Water patrols have increased significantly across the Casey area to coincide with stage two water restrictions.
The patrols will be looking for residents, businesses and local councils who are not complying with the restrictions.
The watering of lawns is no longer allowed and hoses can not be used to wash cars.
South East Water managing director Dennis Cavagna said water patrols have been introduced to ensure there is a stronger presence in the community.
“We are getting tougher against people who flout the water restrictions. Customers have told us that they want us to target water wasters and that is exactly what we will be doing under the new restrictions,” Mr Cavagna said.
He said customers who do the right thing and follow the restrictions had nothing to worry about.
“While most people do the right thing and want to save water, there are now strong provisions in place to ensure everyone complies with water restrictions,” he said.
A new water restriction hotline has been introduced which will support the water patrols.
