CASEY residents are invited to a free community information evening about greywater irrigation, rainwater tanks and stormwater harvesting
The night will be presented by City of Casey water projects officer Wendy van Dok, an urban water specialist and author of The Water Efficient Garden.
Casey engineering and environment manager David Richardson said the importance of having a more water efficient garden was obvious, but putting such practices into place could seem daunting.
“This information evening will provide practical advice on setting up a new garden or adjusting your existing garden to help save you money and reduce the impact on our environment.”
Participants also have the chance to win a $300 door prize towards the cost of installing one of the water saving methods.
The first session, from 7pm to 7.45pm, will cover general water issues such as Stage Two water restrictions and State Government rebates as well as greywater irrigation, including regulations, public health issues, chemicals in detergents and cleaners, treatment systems and how to set up a simple diversion system at home.
The second session, from 8pm to 8.45pm, covers tank materials, plumbing regulations and how to avoid water quality problems, as well as how to harvest stormwater directly in the garden with retaining walls, swales, catch basins, baffles, drainage chimneys and rain gardens.
Light refreshments will be served.
The evening runs from 7pm to 9pm on Monday, 27 November at the City of Casey Council Chamber on Magid Drive in Narre Warren.
