Yes, adults can play, too

ADULTS may soon be having as much fun as children do in Casey’s playgrounds.
That was the thought after Casey councillors voted to further investigate the possibility of installing playgrounds tailored to the adult and senior citizen community.
Outdoor gym equipment, croquet, swings and slides and badminton have all been mentioned as possible activities that could be catered for in the adult play areas.
Council officers sought the opinion of several groups, which revealed a strong emphasis on the need to provide facilities that encouraged physical activity and socialisation among the older age groups.
The adult play group movement is gaining momentum in both Melbourne and abroad.
A report presented to councillors cited working examples in the Docklands and North Balwyn along with the United States of America and Germany.
“General research shows that adults want spaces where they can have fun, become fitter and healthier, enjoy their leisure time and wherever possible be outdoors in the company of friends,” the report said.
Councillor Lorraine Wreford said Casey would be seen to be leading the way if they could develop a adult playground project.
“More consultation with older residents will help get a better understanding,” Cr Wreford said.
Officers will continue to investigate the feasibility of the playgrounds.
