Bargain books to start a new chapter

BOOKS for all literary tastes will be on sale for charity later this month in Berwick.
Members of the Berwick Salvation Army Church have collected more than 6500 books, which will be sold to raise money for an orphanage in Uganda.
Subjects ranging from romance through to sport and children’s books are in the large collection donated by church members.
The giant book sale will be held from 8.30am to 1pm on Saturday, 24 February at Berwick Salvation Army Church Hall.
Event organiser John O’Shea said the money raised would go towards buying a three-phase power generator for the orphanage in Jinja, a village 70km from the Ugandan capital of Kampala.
Mr O’Shea said he and his wife spent 10 days in the village in 2004 and were keen to support the orphanage, which houses and educates 120 children.
He said most of the books would be sold for $1, while those considered of greater value going for the bargain price of $2.
A car boot sale and shoe sale will also be held at the church on the same day, with these proceeds going to the Salvation Army’s local charity works.
